Crystal Care & Optional Cleansing Rituals: Water, Light, Selenite & Sound
Choose a cleaning method for the material before adding a spiritual ritual
1. Hardness is only one part of care
The Mohs scale compares resistance to scratching; it does not tell you whether a stone tolerates water, heat or chemicals. GIA separates durability into hardness, toughness and stability. Before cleaning, identify the mineral, ask about dyes, coatings or fracture filling, and inspect for loose fragments or damaged settings. For an unidentified or fragile specimen, avoid immersion and get material-specific care advice. Do not put collection minerals in drinking water.
2. Clean the object before choosing a ritual
For a sound, untreated Citrine gem, GIA recommends warm soapy water and advises against steam and heat. That guidance does not transfer automatically to a mixed cluster, a coated stone or a piece of jewelry with glue and other materials. Follow the care instructions for the whole object. Store hard stones separately from softer pieces, and support fragile clusters instead of rubbing their points.
3. Selenite and moonlight as symbolic practices
Some modern crystal practitioners rest stones near Selenite or mark a lunar phase as a symbolic reset. Neither practice physically cleans a mineral or establishes an energy transfer. No charging duration is required. Keep a lunar display indoors, dry and out of direct sunlight, and use separate supports so harder stones cannot scratch softer ones.
4. A quiet, smoke-free ritual
You can simply look at your display, name an intention and return the stones to their supports. A bell or singing bowl is optional; use a comfortable volume and keep the instrument from striking the specimens. Treat sound as part of the ceremony, with no required pitch or frequency. Smoke is unnecessary for either cleaning or a personal ritual.

Selenite display plates
Check dimensions and surface finish. Use as a dry display object rather than a universal cleanser.

Singing bowls with supports
Compare size, handling instructions and return terms. A frequency label does not establish a health benefit.
